Old French Lighthouse
Once we reached the lighthouse in Kompong Chom, I was excited to overcome my fear of heights. But as I looked up at the so called ‘stairs’, my heart plummeted. The top was high up there, where the wind blows more and harder.
The stairs were more like ladders attached with flat metal pieces. My niece said, ” No way! I’m not gonna do it!” I felt, I had to, for me. So I began up the first ladder, one step at a time. The first two ladders were a piece of cake. As I approached closer to the top though, my nerves were becoming on edge. Every step I took closer to the top, I could feel pins spread throughout my feet.
I could no longer look down. My adrenaline had picked up. With every step, it was becoming harder and harder to keep going. At the last ladder, it felt as if my knees would give out. My body kept shaking with each step. It felt as though my knees kept buckling. But I pushed on and kept myself from giving into my fear.
Finally, I made it to the top with adrenaline pumping furiously through out my entire body. I looked out and walked around a little bit. But I couldn’t trust my legs. Now the new obstacle is getting down.
Never give up on yourself. You will never know what you can accomplish until you try. So don’t give up even before you make some kind of an effort. You can surprise yourself at what you can do! Keep putting that foot in from it you and don’t give in to stress or the hard times in life. You can do it!
